Create a Custom Fireplace

In this tutorial I'll show you how to create a custom fireplace inside of the house object. This can be done in Idea Spectrum's Realtime Landscaping Plus, Pro, Architect, and even Unilock's Uvision 3D Landscape Creator.

First, we are going to add a House object to our project.

Add a Box object, found under the Modeling tab, and set the properties to the desired size of the fireplace, and then place the Box in the desired position of the fireplace.

Note: The Box needs to extend into the House object.

We need to convert the House object into a Custom Model. Select the House, click the Modeling tab, and click the Convert to Custom button.

Note: Converting an object to a Custom Model is permanent. If you do not want to lose your House, please copy and paste before proceeding.

We are now going to cut a hole inside of our Custom House object. First select the House, Press and Hold Shift on your keyboard, and select the Box object. Go to the Modeling tab, and select the Subtract solid models button.

By clicking the Edit Polygons button, in the Properties window on the right, select the material of your cutout. Click the Select same material button if you desired the material to be the same. I chose Black Aluminum for the sides and top, and Stone 278 for the bottom.

Next, we are going to add a Fire model. To do this, click the Landscape tab, select the Landscape Light button, open the library, click the Other category, and select the desired model. I chose Linear Flame.

I am going to add a glass panel in front of my fireplace. Add another Box object, from the Modeling tab, adjust the properties about an inch or two larger than your fireplace, set the Width to 1".

With the Box still selected, click the Convert to Custom button. I am going to make the Width even smaller, uncheck the Scale evenly option, and adjust the Scale about X to create the desired size.

Now, we want to change the material of the Box to Glass. Change the Material of the object to White, click the Shader drop-down, and select Glass. Position the glass pane over the fireplace.

I want to give this fireplace a nice chrome frame. To do this, add another Box object, set the properties larger than the fireplace to create a border. To cut a hole in the middle of the first Box we are going to add a second Box, this time the same size as the fireplace. Position the second Box in the middle of the first, make sure it extends through the first Box. Next, select the first box, press and hold the Shift key, select the second Box, and click the Subtract solid models button.

Click the Shader drop-down, select Chrome, and position it to border the fireplace.

Click the Walkthrough tab to see the final design.
